Quit Smoking and get rid of the habit for Good

 Many people find that one of the hardest things to do in life is to stop smoking, especially if they have been engaging in this habit for years.  Reports show that tobacco products can be as addictive as illicit drugs and inhaled nicotine can reach the brain in just seven seconds.  Even so, many have overcome this habit.  How can you do so?  Here are some suggesstions that may help you to kick the habit.

1. Set a date.  Mark it on your calendar, tell your friends, and stick to this date even if your circumstances change.

2. Make a quit card.  List your reasons for quitting and the phone numbers of people to call when you feel the urge to smoke.

3. Change your habits associated with smoking.  Avoid places where others smoke and limit or even avoid association with ones who smoke, whether socially or habitually.

4. Alternatives.  Stock up on oral substitutes like:  carrot sticks, gum, nuts and so forth.

5. Take action.  Get rid of ashtrays, lighters, old cigarettes lying around the house, in your car, pockets or even at work.

You may ask, what do I do if the withdrawal symptoms seem to hard to bear?  Keep in mind that this is a legitimate concern but if you prepare yourself for these hurdles they may be easier to overcome.  Try these practical suggestions.

Get more sleep.

Drink plenty of water or juice.

Eat wholesome food.

Engage in moderate exercise.

Breathe deeply and picture clean air filling your lungs.

Many times these symptoms will start to diminish in four to six weeks.  Even if you may relapse, keep trying and don't give up on yourself.  Remind yourself of the benefits:  Better health and more money in your pocket.  Stay positive and you can win your battle over the cigarette.
